"Useful, but overhyped"

Definitely one of the best media players, but I find it is a little overhyped. The advantages are well documented but I want to go over some of the details that I don't like so much in this player. Having said that, I still use the player a lot. First of all it's a very ugly player. While this doesn't matter in the long run it would be nice to have something that looks half professional. Secondly there are some features that either take a long time to get used to or work in strange ways. I still find it difficult to set up a playlist. For all of the mention that it supports nearly every video type I still run in to problems with some DVDs (maybe it's because of my PAL region?), sound issues, and graphical errors from time to time which is always disappointing. I think I need more hands on time with the player rather than using it as a backup when others will not work to appreciate the additional features. Having gone over these minor problems I will say that I still love the ease of use, good range of files supported and I will continue to use the VLC player when other players have failed.
